The Volo Bog Natural Area in 2005 lost their superintendent, a site technician, and a part-time secretary due to budget cuts in DNR funds, leaving Stacy Iwaniciki, the Naturalist, as the only staff in the office.  Stacy became the Volunteer Program Coordinator and Naturalist for both the Volo Bog Natural Area and the Moraine Hills State Park. At the same time Greg Kelly, the Superintendent of Moraine Hills State Park was asked to add to his responsibilities, the Volo Bog Natural Area. Thus the above staff will be seen working hard at both sites. Both Stacy and Greg are big supporters of our Friends organizations by attending most of our Board meetings on their own free time, and keeping us up-to-date on current projects and future plans for the sites.

In 2009 Steve Ronnney left for medical reasons, then John Arient retired, and now Maggie Ford has moved away. The IDNR doesn’t have the budget to replace staff, so the sites are really hurting.
