International Bog Day 2009

On July 26 we celebrated International Bog Day at Volo Bog. The afternoon kicked off with a reception for the 20 artists who exhibited in our 2^nd Annual Summer Bog Art Show. Their instructions were to capture the essence of bogs with only one rule – work must represent or be inspired by bogs! (See form for next year). The afternoon continued with music & stories, crafts for kids, guided bog tours, and visits with bog dogs.

Mike Reichart played Native American flutes and gave us some history on them, while teaming up with storyteller Andy Talley, who spoke on nature & bogs. At the same time upstairs we had Nancy Bodinet, Nancy Doughty, Carol Howard, Trisha Steele & Myrna Nelson sharing crafts for children, and in the same room Jane Richards, Trisha Steele, Barbara Fotland, & Barbara Zander manned a table displaying bog products. Outside, we had Jane Richards, Billie Kocal, Bob Vetter, Barbara Zander, & Gail Goeke guiding bog tours, and in front of the Center Mike Iwanicki & George Forrest introduced their Bog dogs. We had beautiful weather and a great turn-out.
