VOLO BOG STATE NATURAL AREA IS OPEN!

 

Currently programs are limited to outdoor settings, group sizes are limited to 8 -15 people plus your leader, depending on the program.

Face masks are required for unvaccinated individuals.  Reservations are required.

Of Bogs & Books book discussion, our FOVB Board Meetings, and some other programs are being held via Zoom.

The Visitor Center is open Wednesday - Sunday as Staff & Volunteers are available.

Patrons are encouraged to call IDNR’s Parks administrative line Monday through Friday at 217-782-6752 with questions that pertain to other parks.

COVID-19 Protocols at your IDNR Sites

  • Do not enter the parks if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Follow the CDC’s and DPH guidelines.

  • Proper Mask wearing is REQUIRED in ALL of our buildings including outhouses, as well as outside when not able to be six feet from others not from your household. Please bring hand sanitizer.

  • Limited outdoor-only interpretive hikes and volunteer activities have resumed.

    • Group size is limited, varying with the program. 

  • We reserve the right to limit the number of people using the sites based on everyone’s ability to engage safely and be mindful of these rules.

Volo Bog & Moraine Hills Park has exciting volunteer opportunities available.

The Boardwalk is Open!

Temporary repairs have been made to the Volo Bog Boardwalk allowing for walking the loop without a guide. But ONE-WAY traffic and mask wearing (when not able to be distant from those who you don’t live with) are required during COVID-19. We continue our tours as always and are delighted to be able to show you the WHOLE BOG!

Volunteer and make a difference! - Please Inquire:

  • Join a Friends’ Board – openings on both Friends of Volo Bog and Friends of Moraine Hills State Park boards

  • Docents & Bog Naturalists at VBSNA once-a-month on weekends

  • Youth Program Naturalists at VBSNA – once-a-week on Wednesdays or Thursdays

  • Volunteer Veterans Conservation Corps at VBSNA & MHSP

  • Habitat Restoration & Stewardship Team at VBSNA & MHSP

  • Adopt-a-Road at VBSNA

Planning a Visit to the Bog

Normally, the Visitor Center is open Wednesday - Sunday from 

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

There are times when staff/volunteers are not available and hours may change on short notice

  • To promote citizen awareness of the natural heritage of Volo Bog State Natural Area through the support of education and special events.

 

  • To help with the acquisition of property, if needed.
