Keeping everyone save during COVID-19 - our protocols:

  • Do not enter if you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19. Follow the updated CDC and DPH guidelines.

  • Non-vaccinated people are expected to continue wearing a mask in our buildings including outhouses, as well as outside when not able to be six feet from people you don’t live with.

  • Of Bogs & Books book discussion, our FOVB Board Meetings, and some other programs are being held via Zoom.

  • The Visitor Center is open Wednesday - Sunday as Staff & Volunteers are available.

  • Patrons are encouraged to call IDNR’s Parks administrative line Monday through Friday at 217-782-6752 with questions that pertain to other parks.

The Boardwalk is Open!

Temporary repairs have been made to the Volo Bog Boardwalk allowing for walking the loop without a guide. But ONE-WAY traffic is required. We continue our tours as always and are delighted to be able to show you the WHOLE BOG!

Volunteer and make a difference! - Please Inquire:

  • Join a Friends’ Board – openings on both Friends of Volo Bog and Friends of Moraine Hills State Park boards

  • Docents & Bog Naturalists at VBSNA once-a-month on weekends

  • Youth Program Naturalists at VBSNA – once-a-week on Wednesdays or Thursdays

  • Volunteer Veterans Conservation Corps at VBSNA & MHSP

  • Habitat Restoration & Stewardship Team at VBSNA & MHSP

  • Adopt-a-Road at VBSNA

Planning a Visit to the Bog

Normally, the Visitor Center is open Wednesday - Sunday from 

9:00 AM - 3:00 PM

There are times when staff/volunteers are not available and hours may change on short notice
