A natural area needs all the friends it can get!

Anybody can volunteer at Volo Bog. As a nonprofit, volunteers are invaluable contributors to our mission.

We have opportunities through both Friends of Volo Bog and Illinois Department of Natural Resources - all you have to do is fill out our application and complete a background check!

The Volo Bog Restoration Project

The Volo Bog Restoration Project was founded in September 2023 by the Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves.

Their goal is to preserve the biodiversity of Volo Bog through habitat restoration, including the removal of invasive plants, monitoring endangered species, spreading native seeds, and more.

The restoration team is fully volunteer-run and always looking for new companions! If you'd like to join, feel free to come to a work day - no prior experience or equipment required.

Work days are held weekly on Saturdays. Please email volobogrestorationproject@gmail.com if interested!

Please come dressed for the weather. Long pants, long sleeves, and sturdy shoes are recommended.

Boots and waders are available onsite if you don't have your own.
