Our 2024 Friends of Volo Bog bird seed sale is over. It's been nice to connect again with so many people who love birds and wildlife.
The memories from you as you picked up your orders are priceless. One couple came over to buy seed. They live by Volo Bog and never knew about the bird seed sale. They will now get the newsletters to learn about all that is happening so they don't miss next year's sale. A lady said the squirrels in her yard won't eat Nyjer or safflower seeds, so that's what she buys for the birds. Another woman said her father was on the board of the Audubon Society for 17 years, so she grew up loving nature. She let us know that "this is the best seed she's ever had!"
We partner with Sue and Bruce Dietz of Harvard Eggs & Feed in Harvard, IL. Each year they make our job easier—from September, when we get prices, through the November evening when they deliver a truckload of seed to the Volo Bog garage. Their daughter, Rosie, and grandchildren, Charlie and Max, help us unload. Their friendship, assistance, and products can't be beat!
Thank you to this year's volunteers: Amy Runkle, Lisa Nadler, and Dan & Danny Graham. They lifted so many heavy bags for us while also putting smiles on people's faces. Caryn McAndrews and Kim Darby helped process orders and get payments ready. This fundraiser wouldn't have been successful without any of you!
For those who bought seed to support FOVB, thank you for helping us reach a record profit. As Stacy Iwanicki always says, "Only good people come to Volo Bog!"
